Melatonin, jumpy legs and so much vomit

The long wait at the deserted gate at the airport became even longer when our flight was delayed an hour and a half.

Some passengers began to drift in. They tended to settle around where I was, and not just because of my magnet personality. 😂

The charging station I sat next to was the only one at the gate

Double sided, one out of the four possible power points didn’t work. My charger has four plug-in points and by the time we were near boarding , three other folk were using it, and one teenage girl had my charger pack as her phone was only at 1%.

One NZ couple sitting near me had had their previous Air Canada flight cancelled and spent the night on the floor. Someone at the airport had worked out a hotel rest for just them and one other from 6 that morning.

A really sweet young Aussie couple sat next to me pretty early on in the afternoon and our chats made the last 5 hours much more bearable.

My little airport friend

We watched each other’s bags during toilet and food runs.

When we finally got going, boarding took ages. I found myself seated next to two very sweet older ladies.

I had told the Aussie couple I’d stay awake the first 7.5 hours and sleep the rest, to get in sync with my time zone. They were going to do that too.

I struggled to stay awake for dinner service., in fact i think I nodded off for about 20 minutes .

Dinner was tasty, better than on the first flight. Needed salt though. The pic turned out really red in the darkness.

I was super uncomfortable, my feet restless and squished. I kicked of my shoes and found my first ever dose of melatonin helped me grab a three hour block of sleep.

Then, after a snack of chicken salad sandwiches and Biscoff biscuits, I took two melatonin, put on a sleep podcast from the entertainment and got 4 hours of sleep.

A family in the middle row a little behind us in the middle section had two kids who hoiked uncontrollably after every meal. It was very distressing to hear so I cannot imagine the discomfort.

We gave them our row’s vomit bags to try to help.

Breakfast:

We landed with no problem, and then let the 20 people with very tight connections get out first.

The two kids that had vomited off and on all night, still had their faces attached to bags. The vomit bags had all been used up and now the girl had resorted to using a plastic rubbish bag, and the boy had a tiny brown paper bag!

When we filled out the customs form on the plane, I had ticked every box with customs to avoid getting in trouble. But when I went through I only had to give up the multi coloured popcorn kernels I had brought for Robby.

The customs guy allowed me a final photo of the popcorn kernels

Robby and Soph were waiting for me and we had a fun catchup before gong to see if I could catch an earlier bus with my flexible.

The delay had caused me to miss my original 930 connecting bus. I had booked a flexible fare and used it to book a 12:30 fare, knowing I would try to fit into an earlier bus if there was space.

Not only did I sneak onto the 10:40 bus, there was no one beside me!

And that is a wrap!!

Heading home to have a very relaxed introvert weekend!

  1. Good to know you weren’t vomiting. I would hope flight attendants would be able to get more vomit bags if necessary. I think airlines should supply the vomit bags that hospitals now use. They are fantastic. They have a wide plastic circular rim so there is no accidental spray. After my surgeries last year I had a big post anaesthetic heave, and the heavy duty vomit bag was a winner.
