Exploring, a third amigo joins us, and I nearly meet a gopher!

After a less disrupted night from jet lag, it was really hard to force myself to get up at 8:30, but Imanaged.

Moira and I bundled off in her car for an adventure involving brunch. We drove out to very pretty Port Gamble to explore.

This historical town has an unfair amount of charm. We walked up one side, then pulled in to Butcher & Baker Provisions for the best potato dish ever: hash!

For such a simple name, this dish was just incredible. Potato cubes fried in some savoury spice mix, with the most delicious fried tomato slices and caramelised onions. Cheese melting in there too and the whole thing topped with fried eggs. The iced coffee was the best I have had this trip too!

After, we walked down the other side of the main area. Port Gamble’s country store is particularly delightful.

A lot was happening while we were away exploring.

Moira’s husband Ben and their daughter Mari were embarking upon n day project- building a tree house up in the woods behind their house. Son Nathaniel is still recovering from having his wisdom teeth out and our friend Lori was enroute to join us.

Pepper in her favourite resting position.

We spent such a fun afternoon catching up. I heard hair-raising tales of how Moira and Lori survived starting at our boarding school from the age of 5. Somehow they managed to make hair-raising hilarious.

We laughed and talked some moire and laughed.

At one stage our assistance was needed, to shove part of the ply wood base up to the top of tree house up for the finishing touch. We got behind that plank and ‘heave- hoed’ in unison and shoved it up. And then we scream and ducked in unison and it slid straight back down with no small momentum. Did we narrowly avoid a triple decapitation? I think maybe.

Hours and hours of catching up followed., continuing over fantastic food. Moira can Cook!

This is our marinated grilled chicken, the best salad with rice.

We finished the might on a walk around the area.

And then – we ACTUALLY finished the night with more chatting over cinnamon whisky.

It las been another cup- filler day. These girls are so very special!

I may have also seen my first gopher! Not in pristine condition though. The cats got him first.

And this area is full of moles!
