Planes, shuttles and a ferry.

Second leg:

Last time I had this short a time between connecting flights that required going throughUS customs, we missed the flight.

Thiankfully, this was not the case today.

Customs isolated both my bags but not for anything serious and I got through quite quickly- giving me time to get a strong iced coffee to prop my eyes open.

Vancouver airport is quite beautiful. Pity it was such a short visit.

How sleep deprived was I?

Well, as I set off for the boarding gate, a man chased after me to give me my passport!! I

That’s how sleep- deprived.

Leg 2 from Vancouver to LA was in a much smaller plane.

An uneventful flight.. I was a little unimpressed to have to buy my headphones on the plane!

Landing in LA brought back memories of our 2012 trip.

I needed to catch a complimentary shuttle to get to the Delta terminal; the shuttle driver was not kind to any of us. No compassion.

She was loudly sarcastic when I asked if she might prompt me when to disembark. Other passengers around assured me they would let me know. Actually, my terminal was well signed, so I felt a bit embarrassed fir asking in the first place. The driver then totally ignored one sweet lady’s question and then shouted at her.

It must be the most mundane job to run people up and down the terminals with that dreadful traffic. But one’s approach to interactions can make so much difference. Two minutes later, I asked for information from someone in a similar role and her take on our conversation was just so delightful, I walked away feeling energised

Know who else is scary? Some of the US customs folk, that’s who. Yelling at slower people going through, or people not doing the right thing.

I was glad to get into the terminal, head spinning from lack of sleep and tummy grumbling.

As I neared my Gate, I discovered Cava. Yum!!! My lamb bowl was as full of grilled vegetables, lush lamb, feta and more feta, so delicious!

My eyes were seriously drooping, so I curled up in a comfy couch and managed 45 minutes of sweet sweet sleep.

Much refreshed I chased sleep away with an

Iced -brown -sugar espresso on skim, with 1 pumps of brown sugar syrup, 2 pumps sugar free vanilla, and a splash of heavy cream . There was a hint of cinnamon and I wasn’t mad about it

As I sat enjoying my drink, a DeltA employee with the most beautiful voice announced that they needed at least two volunteers to be bumped from the flight with $500 cash as compensation.

Best believe, I galloped across and was the first. As a solo traveller you can do these things!

As it turned out there was no need to bump anyone, but it was rather thrilling at the time!

I was excited to have Wicked Little Letters on the Delta screens!

My middle seat on Dekta saw me sandwiched between two very quiet passengers. Just before liftoff, the guy next to the window pulled the blind down. 😞

After landing in Seattle, I hustled to the light rail, following everyone else there. . Once again, I boarded Seattle public transport without paying. I got in with a transport official and they waived the fare. Like Deja vu from my last visit in Seattle.

The official and another Seattle resident told me which station to get off at and then I ran past a lot of the seedy side of the city to catch the ferry over to Poulsbo and then got there just in the nick of time!

The ferry glider through the twilight toward Bainbridge where Moira was as airing to pick me up!

And that is how my 30 hours in the air/ in airports plus 1/2 hour on a ferry took place.

Now 3 days with Moira and her family and a overnight visit from another lovely high school friend,: Lori.

But first: sleep
