Stupid! -Like a Donkey (heading out to my high school reunion!)

This morning was spent joining airline app and typing up loose ends before my bus to Sydney.

I am glad I went back in to my emails from the Aunt Betty travel site through whom I booked my airfare last year.

As I was trawled the emails from Aunt Betty, I noticed one entitled ‘travel insurance’ from last year.

I only just purchased my travel insurance last week, so, mystified, I clicked on the email.

Guess who has two thumbs and had already purchased really good travel insurance last year??

Being doubly insured isn’t a thing.

I was still in the cooling off period for the more recent travel insurance purchase, so I promptly cancelled it.

Crikey!

The bus had assigned seats. Luckily I was next to a lovely lady. After half an hour of chatting, I pretended to go to sleep and then actually fell asleep for an hour at least.

We arrived at the airport as the sun set. I love airports and almost felt like staying. There is nothing quite like the vibe at an international airport.

But with an early wake up looming, I headed towards the shuttle area. There was no real signage as to where to stand for my hotel. I found a sweet old Korean couple with very poor English and we figured out we were both after a shuttle for nearby hotels.

After a short wait, a big white van with a trailer attached,, careened around the corner and screeched into the parking spot in front of us. The very gruff driver had no interest in working out what hotel the Korean couple were trying to get to. I deciphered it for him in the end.

Our driver was already in a foul mood. He refused to answer the questions that the couple timidly put forth. They giggled nervously to cover embarrassment and we all just hung on tight and looked out the window as the van hurtled into the night, shunting us in and out of busy lanes with the recklessness of a road rager.

The couple were dropped off first. And then I noticed that our drivers English was poor too. I think he was Polish.

He started to chat, but the thoughtlessness of the traffic around us had him throwing both arms in the air in fury.

He lambasted one idiotic driver with an absolute tirade in Polish, then turned around and translated for my benefit.

‘Stupid!! like a donkey!!.’ He fumed.

I was glad to arrive at the hotel in one piece. This hotel is certainly not a very enticing location. But it does the job.

No heading out for dinner, as I will be up at 4:15 am with a shuttle taking me back to the airport at 5. I have contented myself with one of the two freezer meal options the hotel had on offer- heated it up on the spot and brought it up to my room,

I did my usual hotel habit: drank all the UHT milk sachets in the fridge and now I am winding down and hoping I feel sleepy soon.
