Sightseeing the Inner Harbour

We had a leisurely start to the morning with a cup of tea and looking through old photos.
Sheri drove us into the Inner Harbour area for our day of sightseeing.
Victoria’s streets are lush with vegetation, baskets overflowing with potted towers hang from windows, lampposts and along the streets.
As we walked towards Fisherman’s Wharf we stumbled upon our first food experience: Nourish on Quebec St.

On the cusp of ordering my usual (a cappuccino), I heard Sheri enquiring about the chicken bone broth on their menu. The girl behind the counter totally sold it. We both decided to order a cup of Simplify, bone broth with turmeric oil, and two accompanying vegan cookies to share.

The broth was subtly flavoured, smooth and comforting to drink. To get the depth of flavour that was in that cup, a lot of magic had obviously happened behind the scenes. We both left the cafe feeling smugly healthy. It was of course the last time we experienced that particular emotion on our tasting journey.

Sheri is just an extraordinarily generous tour guide, we stopped at all the picturesque locations and found some hidden gems too.
Here is our time at the Inner Harbour in pictures.
A walk around Fisherman’s Wharf boardwalk, looking at the colourful floating homes.

We caught a water taxi to Chinatown.
We walked through narrow laneways with lantern, several markets.

We feasted on the most delicious late lunch at Red Fish Blue Fish, right on the water. I had a tempura cod tacone. Every element, even the wrap itself, was perfection. The taste combination had been honed to a fine point of food heaven.

It was the dish of the day for me. We sat in our mini food coma, watching the water planes arriving on the water and kayakers getting ready for a paddle out.

If you are lucky enough to go to Victoria, go to this place- their fish and chips look like they are out of this world too. Be aware that there will always be a queue, but the food is worth it and you have a working port in front of you to watch as you wait.
Souvenir shopping, sightseeing and (of course) ticking it off the bucket list took us back to the beaver tail place we had found much earlier in the day. It was a tasty treat, like a flat doughnut, covered in cinnamon sugar.

I didn’t eat too much because I was saving room more the outing’s grand finale: Canada’s National dish- poutine!

Poutine is French fries topped with cheese curds, and smothered in hot gravy.
I am not fond of gravy unless I make it because then I know it isn’t just out of a box and bland.
But- poutine!
We ordered a tiny bowl between us and we just hoovered those French fries up. The curds had melted under the rich rosemary-infused gravy, the fried shallots added a crunch and the green onions brought the final note of harmony to this marvellous dish.
Sheri ordered some burgers to go. She ordered an elk burger for us to share, which tasted gamey and delicious.

We finished our day with a TV movie and a cryptic crossword
