In which we learn to shhhhhh

What a whirlwind time in Amsterdam!
We woke, stored our luggage where we had stayed and headed out for Anne Frank House. If you are not there by 8:30 in summer, the queue is up to 3 hours long.
We got there by 10 and it was a 3 hour queue. We took photos to prove we had been there- well, to the outside.

We walked into the city to do some souvenir shopping and meet my old school and blogging friend, Marit.
We spent a lovely couple of hours, exploring together, walking through the flower markets.

Once we had seen and eaten our fill, we walked back to Museumplein near where we were staying. We farewelled the lovely Marit, collected our luggage and headed to the airport.
Our flight with EasyJet was a surprise. I didn’t realize there was no free food on the plane. I love the free food and the entertainment. It was thankfully a short flight, though the plane taxied so long out to it’s takeoff location I actually thought it might be driving us to Berlin! 😛
We had to wait quite a while for checked luggage this time and then our time was very short to meet our host at the apartment. I panicked as being late would add £20 Euros for late check-in, so we caught a taxi. The lovely old guy gave each of the kids a kinder treat as welcome.

We were welcomed to our new residence by our host whose English was poor. His wielding of a wide angle lens certainly isn’t poor; the flat is minute (as in tiny)!!!
It is hard to have more than 1 person in the kitchen at a time.
Our host was anxious at the noise we made climbing all the steps up and told us to be quiet or the police would be called by a neighbor. Seriously? I have a child who jumps up and down chronically for probably 3-4 hours a day. We are doomed before we started!
It was quite a process signing docents and paying him. He was charging €5 a day for wifi. I said ‘ how good is this wifi?’
He immediately said ‘ I give it to you for free’
That bad, huh?

We tiptoed around trying to feel at home. We were tired and it would have been nice to veg out in front of a tv show, but there was nothing in English, and we couldn’t even get subtitle as he has put a child lock on the remote to stop people changing the subtitle language. Gah!
We had eaten all day but yet again we were starving. Nothing seemed to be open nearby, so we plugged good old faithful McDonalds into our iPhone GPS and even though it became offline once we stepped away from our dodgy wifi it took us there. It was a very very late dinner for us- 11 pm
Then bed!
